HMS Andromeda (F57) was a batch 3 broad beamed Leander Class Frigate of the Royal Navy. The last British Warship to have been built at Portsmouth Dockyard. She was laid down on 25th May 1966 and was launched 364 days later on 24th May 1967 by Mrs G Reynolds the wife of the then Defence Secretary.

She was commissioned into the Royal Navy on the 9th December 1969 under the command of Captain (later Rear Admiral) M.L.Stacey. She was decommissioned in 1994 and consequently was transferred to Indian Naval Service for use as a training ship.

The pennant Number of HMS Andromeda was F57 and she became affectionately known as “Heinz Variety”. This web site has been produced by members of the ships company who served on HMS Andromeda. Over 30 years later it was the idea of a couple of the crew, who had stayed in touch, to try and find more of the crew from years ago. What began with only 9 at the initial meeting in Gosport in 1999 now has over 300 ex crew from all commissions of the ship. Each month more old shipmates are found in all corners of the world.

The association is open to all who served on Andromeda during her distinguished career or anyone who had a family member serve on her.
